As Always a Painful Declaration of Independence – For Ama. For Aba. For Charlotte and Adjoa is a multidisciplinary project taking personal and historical research into the 1957 Ghanaian independence from the perspective of a family’s migration to the UK as a starting point. It explores the social, cultural and political agency of womxn of colour as they navigate historic legacies of colonialism, independence, migration and the contemporary global socio-political climate.
